Award in Chair-Based Exercises for the Frailer Older Person

Venue: Leatherhead, Surrey

Course overview:

This qualification is particularly aimed at Fitness Instructors who would like to assist frailer adults who have limited mobility and are chair bound.  You will be able to design and teach exercises safely and effectively.

This is a very rewarding and challenging profession, you will be able to work along with GP's, hospitals, Nursing Homes, Residential Homes and Sheltered Accommodation.


You should already have expereince working with older people or have experience of delivering exercise.

What you will learn:
  • The main physiological changes that occur to the body systems as a result of the ageing process
  • Screening tests that can be used to determine readiness to exercise for older people
  • The referral routes available for people unable to exercise
  • How to plan, deliver, manage and evaluate a safe and effective prescribed exercise programme of chair -based exercises for the frailer older person.

  • Worksheet
  • Formative practical assessmenton on the last day
